Position Overview
Carleton School, Meigs County Board of Developmental Disabilities, is seeking a passionate and dedicated Preschool Intervention Specialist to join our Early Childhood Education team. This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and monitoring individualized educational services for preschool-age children (ages 3-5) with developmental delays or disabilities. The Intervention Specialist will work collaboratively with families, therapists, paraprofessionals, and other educational professionals to support child development in inclusive and specialized preschool settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) and Ohio Department of Education guidelines.
- Provide direct instruction and targeted interventions to students based on their individual goals and Ohio’s Early Learning and Development Standards.
- Collaborate with related service providers (e.g., OT, PT, SLP), classroom staff, and families to ensure cohesive support.
- Maintain accurate records, progress reports, and documentation as required by local, state, and federal regulations.
- Utilize evidence-based instructional strategies and assessments to inform teaching practices.
- Conduct ongoing developmental and educational assessments using Ohio-approved tools.
- Provide direction and training to instructional assistants and/or volunteers assigned to assist in the classroom.
- Support smooth transitions for students entering kindergarten or other educational programs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree (minimum) in Special Education or related field.
- Valid Ohio Intervention Specialist teaching license with Early Childhood Intervention Specialist (P-3) endorsement, as issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce (ODEW).
- Knowledge of early childhood development, special education law (IDEA), and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Ability to work effectively in team settings with a collaborative approach.
- Experience working with young children with developmental disabilities preferred.
